there is a false premise in the current tax debate that does not get mentioned enough, if ever. and its this: the super-rich did not become successful purely from their own effort and diligence. you either have to be a fool or wilfully blind to believe that.
the american dream can be a pernicious myth that makes people believe that they don’t owe anything to anybody - that people are fully...
there was a sermon i once heard, it might have been one of pastor jae’s, where the pastor said that shame and self-conciousness were really problems of egoism and pride. now this makes a lot of sense to me.
while i was mowing my lawn today i thought to myself “i can’t drink that much, but my shame and self-loathing is a tank”. what that pastor was saying is that this shame...
less than a week before my i begin my last year of law school, i have, for the first time maybe ever, the desire to truly be an advocate; to be a lawyer. being a lawyer was always a sort of means-ends thing - a springboard into a second career of policy advice, research, or policy research. and while that still is the goal, im actually excited to become and practice as a lawyer.
during the end of...

question
Ok so economists always love to say that a weak dollar is good for America b/c it means our exports are cheaper. And I get that.
What I dont get is why the other half of the equation is always ignored. this means that goods are now more expensive for US nationals- and for a country with a large trade imbalance (i.e. that we import much more than we export), isn’t that a very bad thing for...
This is going to sound really obvious, but if I’ve learned one thing in law school its that things are rarely simple. Things that are conceptually simple are rarely so when implemented.

At church today a girl I met before was saying ‘Hi’ to me- I couldn’t tell if she was going in for a hug or handshake, so I went in 100% hug: arms wide, leaning in. She said “omg- what are you trying to do!” Then I turned red.
